Evaluating optimum seeding distances from subsurface banding poultry litter in crop rotations
نویسندگان
چکیده
Poultry litter is a nutrient-dense fertilizer, but surface applications lead to nutrient losses air, soil, and water. Objectives were evaluate optimum subsurface-applied poultry bands from crop seeding distance in corn (Zea Mays L.)–soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] rotation. Soil amendment treatments included planting 13, 25, 38 cm subsurface-banded litter, surface-applied inorganic nitrogen (N), 0 kg N ha−1 (control) Year 1, followed by soybean 2 (no new soil applications). Across subsurface treatments, grain silage yields 45 30% greater compared with applications, respectively, not differing 25- 38-cm during harvest. In 2, 26% than N. Consequently, banding may be an ecologically agronomicallyviable replacement for systems corn–soybean rotations.

Water-quality effects of a mechanized subsurface-banding technique for applying poultry litter to perennial grassland.
Poultry litter is known to be an excellent organic fertilizer, but the common practice of spreading litter on the surface of pastures has raised serious water-quality concerns and may limit potential benefits of litter applications. Because surface-applied litter is completely exposed to the atmosphere, runoff can transport nutrients into nearby streams and lakes, and much of the ammonium nitro...

متن کاملProspects for phosphorus recovery from poultry litter.
Land disposal of poultry litter is an environmental concern often associated to excess phosphorus (P) in soils and potential water pollution in regions with intense poultry production. Although poultry litter can be moved off the farm and traded as fertilizer, its transportation becomes less economical with increasing distances from the farm. Thus, new litter management alternatives are needed ...
